Why Americans Buy Tow Hooks?
If you are into off-road excursions, think of the additional equipment you may need in the unusual conditions. Towing equipment will increase the utility of your car, truck, or SUV and will also be a guarantee, that the vehicle will not get extra damage due to improper attachment of towing equipment. So, what are the main reasons why US car owners buy tow hooks and other towing equipment? See the results of the research we have conducted in 2020.
A Useful Part. The majority of truck and SUV owners noted, that they use their vehicles for hauling or trailing things occasionally or all the time. However, the Jeep owners said, that they tow something from time to time, and do not use their Jeep SUVs for towing on regular basis. Regardless of the vehicle type, 72% of US respondents noted, that they have a tow hook since they consider it ‘a useful part’.
Vehicle specific vs universal tow hooks. 67% out of them noted, that they use vehicle-specific tow hooks, while the others said, that they managed to install a universal tow hook. It is curious, that Jeepers noted, that they are happy with the horsepower their Jeeps have, and they find Jeeps as capable as the larger US-built trucks when it comes to towing.
A useful thing for trail days. 45% of those, who took part in our survey noted, that they consider having their towing equipment handy when they plan on staying out on the trail for several days.
Tow hook installation. 53% of those, who took part in our survey noted, that they had their tow hooks professionally installed in the body shops. The others claimed, that they did the installation on their own.
The average price. 41% of the US car owners noted, that they paid between $100 and $150 for their tow hook. 36% noted, that their tow hooks cost between $80 and $100. 18% of the respondents noted, that they paid between $30 and $80 for their tow hooks. And only the remaining 5% of US drivers, who took place in our survey, said that their tow hook costs $150 and up.
Why buy a tow hook?
Sometimes you may need to tow someone’s vehicle or your car or truck has to be towed. When this happens and the vehicles are not properly equipped for towing, there is a chance to get serious damage. When we think of situations when our vehicle has to be towed, we normally think, that this is something that is not likely to happen.
Note, that even the most equipped off-road rigs break down occasionally. So, it is a good idea to properly equip your vehicle to get yourself to a better position for longer tow. Also, make sure to prepare a place you can fix your rig. What are the must-have towing accessories? Start with a good tow hook and quality tow straps. These two will help you prevent damage to one or both vehicles during the tow.
Breakdowns Happen
Breakdowns happen to everyone, especially if you travel along bumpy trails and slick mud. When you are planning such a trip, it is a good idea to think of the recovery plan before you go off-road, away from the civilization. A tow hook for a truck does not take additional space but is a must-have tool on the roads less traveled. Get a tow hook mounted to the front of the vehicle to make sure the vehicle will not be damaged when towing. With a tow hook, you can attach a recovery strap or use a tow strap to slowly pull the other rig.
Recovery straps are a great addition to the recovery pack of any vehicle that goes off-road. Using the strap, you can assist the others and help them get out of sand, mud, and muck. Recovery straps will give a bit more stretch, than a tow strap. As a result, they can easier handle sliding and slipping. When you have a recovery hook, you will cope with any obstacles or nature surprises. You can install a recovery hook on a rig to pull home or to the closest shop without any danger or extra damage to the vehicle. Having proper towing equipment, you will be on the safe side and always prepared on the trail. Don’t let a breakdown cause even more serious issues or damages to the vehicle by having the proper recovery items.
